MIKE just wants to keep everyone alive. JAKE is concealing a violent infection. KATIE is eating for two.

A post I will probably regret when I'm famous.

Recently, my friend Mike uploaded a video called 'Diet Life', the video intro to his high school's news program. Shortly after, Facebook took it down, as it contained a copyrighted song. Diet Life used this song, briefly, in a creative fashion, that could not be downloaded. And yet, it was taken down. I felt sympathy for my best friend, and didn't expect the issue to come up again any time soon...

...until I signed into YouTube and saw that several of our short films had been removed for containing a soundtrack of unlicensed music. This is what YouTube told me:

Your video, More Sugar - Part 2 (Working Title), may have audio content from Bad Boys by Inner Circle that is owned or licensed by WMG.

As a result, your video has been muted.

In YouTube's defense, they did give me the option of completely replacing the audio in my video using a program called AudioSwap. If I had just put up the audio of the song with an album cover, which you can find all over YouTube, I would have gone down without protest. YouTube is one of the best places for backyard filmmakers to go show their work and receive the feedback of their peers.

Without YouTube, where are they supposed to go? DailyMotion? Funny Or Die? Yes, there are alternatives, but nothing with the exposure of YouTube. Some 15 year old kid with his dad's camcorder isn't going to be able to license music. If this persists, the pirates will just go back to their file sharing programs. The ones who will suffer are those in the creative community.

Programs like Frostwire and Transmission allow you to download this music free of charge. YouTube is a streaming video site that does not allow the download of its videos. I understand where you're coming from, YouTube, but this is only going to encourage people to download music in a way that encourages piracy, instead of previewing songs that they may not even want to download once they hear them.

I sincerely hope that this either A) changes soon, or B) someone comes in to fill the shoes of what YouTube USED to be.

Paper Blog (or "Plog")

And it's kind of true. This is actually not from laziness, but from me getting a really kick ass handmade leather journal from a one legged pirate. It's kind of like a paper blog (or "plog"). Heard they were very popular in pirate times. I've kind of switched over to that for pure aesthetics, even if no one else can see it. But, I'm having a really off day, and apparently being under 22 and on the internet during said off day means I'm required by stereotype to complain about it on the internet.

But, I'm not gonna be doing that. I am going to be saying that I got into SVA, New York's School of Visual Arts, and I'm soon going to go pwn up film school. With movies. Like these.



Patience with the internet has worn out. Maybe I'll redo this 'Blog' thing?

10 Days 'Til Sunday

That might not actually be true. I've been counting down the days until my girlfriend gets here and I'm pretty sure it's actually 11 days, but I haven't had the heart to tell her. lol. I've got to give my room a complete overhaul, fix my shower, and get a new bed before she gets here. I also have to finish all of her presents and get my Christmas shopping done (my dad hasn't sent money over from the Bahamas yet. sigh.) and get as much schoolwork done as I can because there's no way in hell that I'll be doing schoolwork after not having sex in 5 months. It's just not happening.

Blargh. Gotta get back to work.

ps: I may not agree with him, but I'm a big fan of Mike Huckabee. Go check out his mini-debate with Jon Stewart. It's definitly worth watching.

Starting some Op'ra sh*t.

I have a new appreciation for 'Requiem for a Dream' now that it's not in every trailer ever. 

Also, go check out Repo! The Genetic Opera's soundtrack. Even if the movie is lame, they made a kickass CD. I had downloaded Legal Assassin ages ago because I wish Anthony Stewart Head was my dad and taught me to fight vampires, but held off on the whole CD because I didn't want the movie to be ruined. Well, the movie played in, like, 6 theaters, so, fuck it. The soundtrack is great. I'd recommend Legal Assassin, Zydrate Anatomy, We Started This Op'ra Sh*t, and Let the Monster Rise, which will definitely pinpoint my taste in musicals once you listen to 'em.

Anyway. I'm gonna go start some Op'ra sh*t.
